We are a team of physiotherapists who take care of children and young people at Midland Metropolitan University Hospital, Sandwell and City Health Campuses (formerly Sandwell and City Hospitals), and Rowley Regis Hospital.
We want to make sure children and young people get the help they need to feel better and stay active. We are here to support their health, wellbeing and growth by providing physiotherapy that’s easy to follow, helping them and their family to feel confident in managing their health on their own.
Inpatients:
When children and young people stay in the hospital, sometimes they need physiotherapy. We are there to review them and give them treatment if they need it.
We can help with lots of different conditions, such as:
- Breathing problems
- Injuries
- Neurological conditions
- Conditions affecting muscles and bones
Outpatients:
We have appointments for children and young people from 0-16 years old who have muscle, joint or bone problems.
Appointments will be at Midland Metropolitan University Hospital, Sandwell and City Health Campuses and Rowley Regis Hospital.
Our working hours are 8am – 4pm, Monday to Friday. Sometimes we can see patients after school, but the appointments are limited.
Referrals
To come to our clinic as an outpatient, your child’s doctor or another healthcare professional needs to refer them to us.
Once you have been referred to us, we will look at the information and decide when you should come in.
Then, we will send you a letter telling you when the appointment is or request you call us to book an appointment. If it’s not a good time for you, you can call us to change it. This appointment may come through as a text message link; follow the instructions on the text.
It’s important to respond to our letters within two weeks so we can give your child an appointment as soon as possible.
What to expect from your appointment:
We will talk about what’s bothering your child and given them a check-up. Make sure your child wears clothes that make it easy for us to see the part of their body that needs attention.
After the assessment, we may:
- give you advice,
- talk to other medical teams about your child if needed
- provide exercises to do at home if needed
- ask a different professional to see you
- tell you if you need to come back to see us
The appointment usually lasts about 30 minutes.
After the appointment:
Depending on how your child is doing, we might discharge them if everything’s ok or we might book another appointment.
Sometimes, we’ll keep an eye on things and decide later what to do. If needed, we can also put your child on a waiting list for casting or gym sessions.
We work closely with other professionals such as pediatricians and orthopaedics so we may ask your child to be seen by a different team.
