The Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) and Head and Neck Department provides specialist treatment for these areas and care for conditions including thyroid and parathyroid surgery, neck lumps and head and neck cancer.
After your first assessment, your doctor may ask you to have further tests such as a specialised hearing test, an MRI scan or a CT scan.
We also provide a fast-track service for anyone with suspected cancer symptoms via the Faster Diagnosis Pathway ( this is known as the two week wait – 2ww – pathway).
We provide daily urgent ENT Clinics, Monday to Friday via referral and have a 24 hour a day, seven day a week on call emergency service.
Services
Head and Neck Service
- This service investigates all lumps, tumours or other conditions of the head and neck, whether they are malignant (cancerous) or benign (non-cancerous).
- Thyroid and parathyroid conditions requiring surgery
- Voice disorders
Ears
- We diagnose and treat all conditions affecting the ears. This ranges from minor hearing loss due to ear wax or ear infections, glue ear, right through to serious infections, cholesteatoma and hearing loss.
- The service treats symptoms such as earache, dizziness and vertigo.
- Adults and children are treated for a wide variety of ear and facial
- Complaints including infections, glue ear and other inner ear problems
- We also treat balance problems, facial nerve weakness or facial palsy (paralysis affecting the face).
Nose
This service treats all problems affecting the nose. These include breathing problems, difficulties with the sinuses or nasal polyps. Nose bleeds and fractured nose.
Throat
This includes conditions of painful swellings, tonsils, salivary glands, tumours, swallowing or voice problems.
Urgent Access Clinic
This clinic is for urgent ear, nose and throat (ENT) complaints such as recurrent nose bleeds, sudden hearing loss, ear infections needing microsuction problems.
Dedicated Specialist Services
We operate several specialist services for conditions affecting the ear, nose and throat. These include:
- Balance and dizziness service
- ENT paediatric service (specialist services for children)
- Nasal disorders service
- Thyroid and parathyroid service (these are glands in the throat)
- Voice disorders service
- Removal of ear wax
