A LADY who raised money by having her legs tattooed with ribbons has presented over £1,000 to the Breast Unit at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust.
Mary Tyler, a patient in the unit, was sponsored to have pink ribbons – the emblem of Breast Cancer Care – tattooed on each leg, as well as holding raffles. Her friend Suzanne Henson also joined in by having the ribbons tattooed on her feet.
Mary explained: “It hurt a bit as I’d never had one before.
“I can’t run and I can’t walk far but I wanted to do something to raise some money.”
Rather than writing a cheque, Mary presented a chest full of cash totalling £1,070 to staff at the Breast Unit because she said “a chest represents the chest” and could be associated with breast cancer.
Geraldine Sheridan, Macmillan Breast Care Nurse, added: “It’s fantastic for our ladies to go to the trouble of doing all the hard work to raise money and it will make a big difference to patients coming through.
“In the current economic climate there is very little money around, so everything is an absolute bonus.”
