Cyclists from City and Sandwell Hospital have raised thousands of pounds for a local support group which organises leisure activities for children with disabilities.
A group of 43 staff from Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust completed a sponsored bike ride along the 174 mile Hadrian’s Wall cycle way between Ravenglass and Tynemouth, raising £4,430 along the way. The money will now be donated to Sandwell Parents for Disabled Children.
Dr Helen Grindulis, cyclist and Consultant Paediatrician, said: “The charity cycle rides are always very enjoyable and help raise money for local causes. This was the eleventh ride the Trust’s cycling group have done and we were delighted to surpass all previous amounts raised.
“This time we chose to support Sandwell Parents for Disabled Children, which provides much needed opportunities for children with special needs who find it impossible to access mainstream activities.
“A number of the cyclists involved with the ride look after patients and their families, who have benefited greatly from the work SPDC does.”
Sam Rogers, aged 13, and Joseph Hill, aged 11, who take part in the activities arranged by the organisation, visited the paediatric ward at Sandwell Hospital with their mothers and SPDC manager Diane Rai to receive the donation.
