A medical journal edited by a Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust cardiologist has won an international award recognising growing impact in academic circles.
Professor Gregory Lip is Editor-in-Chief for Clinical Studies with Thrombosis and Haemostasis which has become the first journal to win the Thomson Reuters ScholarOne Journal Triathlon. This award is given to the publication which shows efficiency, longevity and validation of submissions.
He works in collaboration with Editor-in-Chief for Basic Sciences, Prof Christian Weber from Munich, Germany as well as a multidisciplinary group of researchers from across the world who act as Section Editors. It has also become the official journal of a number of organisations internationally.
Professor Lip said: “We are delighted to have this international honour and accolade on a journal which is really ‘going places’.
“The field of thrombosis is so broad. It ranges from basic science to clinical research. A lot of thrombosis research is also done within our Trust.”
This is the inaugural year for the award where the winner was decided by a panel of Thomson Reuters judges. They deliberated on the three criteria that are deemed the most important attributes for a journal to stay relevant and competitive in an ever changing field.
Professor Lip started his Editorship of the journal, which has been established since 1957, in 2009 and from then the journal’s impact factor, which is a measure to show reach, influence and academic impact, has risen steadily.
