Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust (SWBH) is embarking on a recruitment campaign to attract qualified nurses to fill over 100 vacancies across the Trust.
It is part of the Trust’s vision to become the best integrated care organisation in the country. Matron Pauline Mohan explained: “We welcome newly qualified or experienced nurses to apply for an exciting variety of band 5 nursing roles. It is particularly an exciting time to join our friendly and excellent surgical teams at SWBH. This is a very fast-paced environment and you get to experience different things every day.
“By joining us, new nurses will go on our rotational programme that will enable them to work in Emergency, Colorectal and Orthopaedics departments so they will have hands-on experience in different areas, developing their knowledge and skills in an exciting acute setting.
“We also provide a supernumerary induction programme and mentorship package for all new staff. Our Band 5 competency programme enables them to develop their skills further in the acute assessment and care of patients with basic and more complex needs.
“Our surgical teams are well established and very experienced in their specialties. We put excellent patient care and teamwork at the heart of our working life. We support our team members and make them feel part of the family; some would describe going to work as ‘going from home to home’.”
Chief Nurse Colin Ovington, added: “The Trust is hoping to attract the highest calibre of applicants as possible to ensure the nursing care we provide for our patients is compassionate, safe and respectful.”
Candidates are encouraged to apply for the jobs via the NHS Jobs website before 4th November. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a ‘One Stop Recruitment Day’ on Saturday 14th November and posts will be offered on the day to successful candidates.
Acting Sister on Priory Two Ward, Kayleigh Jepson, has been working on the surgical ward for four years and has a lot of praise for the recruitment process that she went through.
“The recruitment process was quite quick, we had the exams prior to interview and we found out the next day that we had the job. I have been supported a lot throughout my time here especially on Lyndon Two, which set me up for the role of Sister that I am in now.”
Kayleigh recommends working with her team in Surgery A, as she believes that the kind and welcoming atmosphere that the other members of staff give is amazing.
“It’s a fantastic welcoming team, with diverse backgrounds and cultures. I see them now as a family, a lot of them are my friends, both personally and professionally which is great.”
