More than 200 people soaked up the sun when they attended a special garden party at a Birmingham hospital which encouraged people to think green.
The annual Sustainability Garden Party, was held at City Hospital, and was packed with ideas on how to be more environmentally friendly.
Francesca Silcocks, Sustainability Officer at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust which runs the hospital, said: “We were thrilled to see so many people turn up at the event today.
“We run it every year to create an opportunity for staff and the public to learn more about the impact of our daily activities which are focused on the environment.
“We had representatives from 16 organisations talk about waste, water efficiency, our sustainable plans for the Midland Met Hospital, transportation and many other things.
“We have received great feedback from visitors, who found the event very interesting. We are planning more like this in the future.”
Throughout the day, the organisers encouraged those attending to make pledges that will see them take small actions which will make a big difference to the environment, such as meat free Monday or simply turning off the lights before leaving a room.
Kevin Barefoot, regional development manager from Waterplus, who attended the event, said: “We were very pleased to be invited to this event. It is very important that people are aware of water efficiency, starting from small actions such as reporting leakages and turning off the taps.”
Karamjit Nar, ward service officer at City Hospital, added: “I’ve had such a great time at this event. One of my highlights was peddling a bike on the spot, which powered a smoothie machine.
“All the information I have learned today has made me more aware of being more green friendly and what I can do to protect the environment.”
