Patients from across the West Midlands are now eligible for the latest advances in surgery for ingrowing toenails at a modern facility in Tipton.
Under the government’s Any Qualified Provider scheme, people with severe ingrowing toenail problems can now receive the most effective treatment to permanently remove ingrowing toenails at Neptune Health Park, in Sedgley Road West.
Nail surgery involves removing all or part of an ingrowing toenail to relieve the symptoms when other treatments have failed or infections occur regularly. Once a patient is referred by their GP, other health professional or themselves, they receive a comprehensive package of care, with rapid assessment, surgery under local anaesthetic within seven days, redressing within five days of surgery, and a quick return to work or school.
Surgery is carried out by a speciality podiatrist from Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust. The nail surgery service has the lowest waiting times in the Birmingham and Black Country areas and offers free parking and convenient, flexible opening hours.
Kulwinder Johal, Head of the Foot Health service, said: “People with ingrowing toenails should not have to suffer. If you have infection, or repeatedly tried treatment and failed, see your GP or other health professional and ask them to refer you to the Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals’ nail surgery service at Neptune Health Park.
“We use a range of techniques and we can tailor the treatment for people with mild needle phobias or higher risk factors. This, along with our short waiting times, means that most patients find that their lives are back to normal very quickly.”
Patients with severe ingrowing toenail problems can also refer themselves by completing a foot health referral form, which is available from the department on 0121 507 2664 or sandwell.foothealth@nhs.net, or from local clinics.
